Overall this is a great company to work for the only reason I have to seek different employement is my wife and kid moved to Washington state and I have been commuting back and forth and now my wife needs help with the day to day. I enjoyed my time at AK Dept of Corrections. This was my introduction to corrections nursing. The staff that provided me with orientation were thorough and professional. The corrections staff was welcoming and professional as well.

Fast paced. Enjoyed working with inmates and had great support from the guards. Demand on RN care was extensive, some times you had to run to several locations and be on demand continually. Supportive of Career Development without discrimination. I enjoyed working for the Department of Corrections so much, that I would enjoy going back and working there.

This work place was very fun and staffed very well. I enjoyed all my co-workers. I also had the chance to have extra income and was allowed overtime. My Supervisors were also great mentors and encouraging. I needed a lot of support and they gave it to me.

As far as the Department comparative to others in the State of Alaska, I guess they are pretty up there and on top of their game. They know what they are doing, they are energetic, organized and function so well as a team and almost everyone, every day came and left work very happy and smiling.
